Pre-requisites

There are no formal training package pre-requisites. However, MCIE requires students to enter via a relevant Certificate III in Individual Support pathway or equivalent.

Entry requirements

English Language requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following English Language proficiency requirements:

  • completed a relevant Certificate III qualification in Individual Support or equivalent
  • IELTS 6.0 or equivalent
  • ELICOS Advanced level
  • Completion of study in an English-speaking country
  • MCIE English Placement Test
  • Other recognised tests (PTE, TOEFL, OET)

Education and skills

Students must complete a Pre-Training Review, meet the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skill standards for this program level, and demonstrate they are a suitable candidate for this program.

Regulatory

MCIE only accepts overseas students who will be 18 years of age by the time of course commencement.

To begin your training at MCIE, you will need a Unique Student Identifier (USI). The USI is a personal reference that creates a secure online record of your VET training. It is managed by the Australian Government and is kept for up to 30 years.

It can be accessed anywhere, anytime. When you arrive in Australia, your visa will be activated and you can then apply for a USI. It is free to create a USI. You need a USI to receive your qualification, or statement of attainment. For further information visit www.usi.gov.au/about.

Students with disabilities

MCIE welcomes all people with disabilities, learning differences and medical conditions. Acceptance in this program is subject to candidates’ ability to undertake all program requirements as discussed in the Pre-Training Review, with reasonable adjustments where applicable.

Digital technology

Students must have sufficient digital literacy skills to access online content, enter answers to written questions and communicate with trainers via email, the student portal and the learning management system.

Industry requirements

Candidates may be asked to provide evidence of the following for work placement (requirements vary according to host employer policies):

  • National Police Check
  • Working with Children Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Flu vaccination and COVID-19 vaccinations

Inherent requirements

This course includes inherent requirements aligned to industry expectations. Students must be able to demonstrate communication skills, physical capability, cognitive skills, emotional resilience, and the ability to meet legal and ethical responsibilities in care environments.

Prior experience

Credit Transfer (CT) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) are available. Credit Transfer is free of charge. RPL application fees are $200 per hour. Please click here for more information.

Work placement

To achieve this qualification, students must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work placement, linked to CHCCCS023 Support independence and wellbeing.
Students entering via the MCIE CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support pathway will have already completed 120 hours of work placement. Where Credit Transfer is granted for the equivalent unit, students are required to complete an additional 60 hours of work placement within CHC43015. 
Students entering from another provider will be subject to Credit Transfer review. Where Credit Transfer is granted, students are required to complete 60 hours of work placement. Where Credit Transfer is not granted, students must complete the full 120 hours of work placement.

Delivery and assessment

Blended training delivery
Two days per week of 7.5 hours, totalling 15 hours of scheduled trainer-led delivery. An additional 5 hours per week is undertaken through structured learning activities, including tutorials, online learning and assessment activities. Online resources and assessments are completed via the LMS.

• 40 weeks total course duration
• 29 weeks structured delivery
• 3 weeks work placement within course duration
• 8 weeks scheduled breaks

Assessment for this program includes written tasks, long and short answer questions, multiple-choice quizzes, group tasks, oral presentations, role plays, case studies, workplace journals, logbooks, portfolios and projects. Most assessments are completed using MCIE’s online systems.
Where a student is required to be assessed in the workplace, evidence gathering tools may include:

• workplace third-party report
• workplace assessor observation
