The latest figures from The National Skills Commission reveal that more than 54% of recruiting employers reported having trouble filling vacancies in the four weeks up to April 30.
They had a particularly tough time hiring outside of the capital cities where 64% reported difficulties, and when hiring skilled workers with a Certificate III qualification or higher, it was 62%.
