MCIE- Focus on Job Outcomes
How MCIE’s career focused training is helping its students become job ready
Vivienne O’Shannessy, Manager, Vocational Education & Training, MCIE, outlines what makes MCIE one of the preferred training providers in the city.
At MCIE, our focus has always been on providing a practical education, informed by industry needs, that paves the way for real world job outcomes for our students. We are confident that our training provides students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and passion that matches their career goals and ambitions.
Because the needs of the various industries with which our courses are aligned are continuously evolving, it’s imperative that students entering the workforce, have the most relevant and up to date knowledge, practical skills, and job readiness competence to meet the challenges of working in diverse environments.
At MCIE, our trainers and assessors go to great lengths to ensure that our course content and training methodologies are aligned with industry needs. We regularly consult with industry specialists to understand the skills and knowledge required for success in a particular field and then work closely with subject matter experts to develop the most relevant and current course content for our students.
At MCIE, our student centric approach is driven by our continued focus on these important enabling pillars for academic excellence and career success:
1. High completion rates
We understand the goals of our students. That’s why we provide guidance and support throughout their learning journey. We offer an in-depth
orientation program, a Student Welfare Coordinator, English language support, and complimentary tutorials designed to support our students complete their course in an enriching learning environment. These are the reasons why we continually enjoy high completion rates.
2. Learner satisfaction
Ensuring learner satisfaction is important to us. The 2018 National Centre for Vocational Education & Research (NCVER) survey for our students showed that over 90% of our students were satisfied with our training and also received at least one job related benefit. It reflects on both the quality of our training as well as on our trainers who focus on providing an exceptional learning journey to our students.
3. Job outcomes
At MCIE, we focus on a competency-based training method which is designed to develop the necessary skills and knowledge for specific job-related outcomes. Our endeavour is to prepare our students in the best possible manner to ensure their optimum suitability for jobs in their chosen field.
We also believe that internships are integral to any learning process since it prepares the students for working in the real world. Work-placement is an important part of our vocational training in commercial cookery, disability and childcare – providing students the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills in real workplaces. These valuable experiences help MCIE’s students become job ready, meeting the skill requirements of industry.
A recent study conducted by International Consultants for Education and Fairs (ICEF 2019) of the international student alumni from eight countries has shown that eight out of ten international students surveyed had chosen to study abroad to improve career opportunities. The study reinforces that job outcomes are important for students. The study also showed that among the students surveyed, fewer than one out of five said that they had access to internships while studying in Australia, New Zealand, and UK.
The success of our students reflects on our commitment to provide them with the best possible training and learning in a structured and stimulating environment with practical training. While we embark on the next chapter of our journey, we are confident that our focus on job readiness will open doors for boundless opportunities for our students in their chosen field.
