Melbourne has so many Instagram-worthy shops, laneways and alleys that it is hard to know where to begin when exploring our beautiful city. Now that the chilly winter months have arrived, we thought we would help you out and compile a handy list of Melbourne’s hottest indoor spots to explore! Make sure you hit these 5 close-to-campus spots this month.

Royal Arcade

Between the spectacular roof decorations and the signature black-and-white tiled floors, its hard to go past the historic Royal Arcade as one of Melbourne’s top laneways.

Once you’re done snapping photos, head inside the Spotty Dot and discover a world filled with charming hand-made dolls, wooden toys and children’s décor! After that, stop by the sinfully delicious Koko Black or Agathé Pâtisserie Petite for something sweet and sensational.

The Block Arcade

The Block Arcade is not only home to stunning Victorian-style architecture but an exciting array of eclectic shops. Recharge at Hopetoun Tearooms with coffee and cake or pop into Barbarella Gelato & Wine for Gelateria Primavera’s amazing gelato and sandwiches.

Cathedral Arcade

Narrow and quirky, Cathedral Arcade’s L-shaped alley is pumped full of artistic arches and stunning stained glass installations. There is a range of beautiful boutique shops to visit in this laneway with lots of Melbourne-made fashion to get your hands on. Head into Kuwaii and Obus for a range of fantastic casualwear, accessories and more. Then stop by Vintage Sole on your way out to grab a one-off piece of clothing history in their retro racks. You’ll be thrown back as far as the swinging 60’s as soon as you step through the door.

Manchester Lane

If you prefer to avoid the busy pace of Centre Place, head to Manchester Lane. Head into the amazing Design a Space where local designers are given the opportunity to showcase their own independent brands – there’s sure to be something that’ll grab your attention. A little ways down the road, The Sure Store’s street apparel is sure to complete your chic style or step into Bared Footwear to find one-of-a-kind footwear!

Centre Place and Degraves Street

Right across from campus, Centre Place & Degraves Street boast street art, year-round alfresco dining and eclectic boutiques! This one-two punch of iconic laneways is home to handmade Victorian produce, sensational shoes or even perfect Pidapipo gelato goodness for those with a sweet-tooth. Make sure you pass through both and check out quirky fashions, unique gifts and anything else your mind can conjure!
