Sofie’s Blog – Old & New Classes, Special Visits & A Pop in from Santa!
RECOGNISING EXCELLENCE
Each month the MCIE WOW Award recognises an exceptional staff member who goes above and beyond the call of duty. The October winner, voted for by his colleagues, was Commercial Cookery trainer, Tony Lew, who won for his inspiring dedication and loyalty. Tony is a great trainer and inspires his students. He is a dedicated team member who is able to work independently, ensuring our high quality standards are maintained at all times. He is very popular with his students and co-workers alike. At MCIE we are very proud to have such excellent trainers as Tony, who continue to help our students reach their full potential.
STUDENT GRADUATION LUNCH & SANTA VISIT!
A very special barbecue lunch was held in Flagstaff Gardens, hosted by the Hospitality department on a sunny Saturday afternoon to celebrate the end of year, and for many students, the end of their course! With a surprise visit from Santa, it was a great afternoon with delicious food, and good company.
NEW CHILD CARE CLASSES
Just as one class finishes, more begin! Two new Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care classes have begun in the past couple of weeks, one of which is being taught by the course co-ordinator herself, Maryann James. We look forward to seeing these new students develop their skills to become exceptional educators over the next nine months, just like those who came before them.
STUDENTS CONNECTING WITH INDUSTRY
Our two Certificate III Individual Support classes were paid a visit by representatives of Mecwacare, an organisation who provide residential and in-home nursing for those who need it. The students were encouraged to consider a career in in-home care taking, something that Mecwacare prides themselves in, as it creates a positive and safe environment for the patient who gets to remain in their familiar surroundings while receiving treatment. This is especially beneficial to those who require long-term care. With one of the Individual Support classes due to finish in February of 2017, these visits from industry representatives are invaluable to show them what options are available to them.
